July 2010 SightingsSaturday July 31-We saw A12 with her 2 remaining nefews (the A36's) again today in Robson Bight! We also managed to find another black bear, they are starting to become more common along the shorelines again! Friday July 30 -An abundance of Orcas again today as well as the usual seals and eagles. We also found a black bear wandering the shores! Thursday July 29 -No whale watch out today, but our Marine Wildlife Safari found Pacific whitesided dolphins, seals, eagles and sea lions! Plus, the rapids put on a fantastic show! Wednesday July 28 -Another great safari day with the whales close by, we met them just south of Ripple Rock and they were heading for Nodales Channel. We saw 9 Orcas and they had a baby with them, too!!! Lots of eagles, Steller sea lions and even a black bear - the tide was right for him. "Best trip ever!" - that's what one of our guests declared with glowing face when she and her little girl returned! How much better can it get on a sunny, calm day on the water up here in beautiful Campbell River! Tuesday July 27 -Whales, whales and more whales!!! Today both our Whale Watch and Our Marine Wildlife Safari saw the Orcas! With over 20 whales in a playful mood it was a wonderful day! One big male did a full breach, he was completely out of the water and our guests were awe-struck! Monday July 26 -We travelled up to Robson Bight today for a spectacular whale show, one big breach as well as several spyhops and tail slaps! The whales sure are enjoying their summer in BC! Sunday July 25 - We had a 6 hour Whale Watch Safari out and didn't have to go far to find what we were looking for. The whales had made their way down Johnston Strait again to Chatham Point and we had some amazing sightings! It is just awesome when we can spend a lot of time watching them without having to travel far. The eagles in the Arran Rapids still abound, their sheer numbers are impressive. We hope for these great sightings to continue for some time. Friday July 23 - Today we had a 4 hour Marine Wildlife Safari out and the sightings were just spectacular!!! We saw 15 Orcas, they even had 2 babies with them! About 50 Dolphins (what a sight when they ride the bow waves!!!), tons of eagles (white heads everywhere, the feeding frency was on!!!), seals and porpoises abound. If just every day was like that!!! Thursday July 22 - We had a 4 hour Marine Safari out today. It was a little choppy... We were up at Nodales Channel, then went down between Stuart and Sonora Islands, saw lots of eagles, played in the Arran Rapids and had lunch in the sun in Bute Inlet. After that came home through Hole in the Wall. Wednesday July 21 - We had 20 plus Orcas today with them 2 baby Orcas. They were a little bit more relaxed today, we didn’t see too much of the Arial acrobatics as we have on other days. Even though the Steller Sealions should be way south of here, he had a chance to watch two of them for a while. We had a blast on the water and came home via the east side of Quadra Island. Tuesday July 20 -Today we had an amazing time on the water; we left the dock at 1 pm and got to the whales in Noalles channel just as all the other whale watching companies were leaving. We spent 2.5 hours with the Orcas, it was amazing!! We were surrounded by 8 Orcas, and they put on such a good show for us! Monday July 19 -Today we had 10 – 12 Orcas from the A clan. They were hunting, and singing. The baby orca testing out some new jumping skills made every one smile (attempted a front flip and turned into a belly flop)! We also saw a bunch of skittish Dalls porpoises staying clear of the whales! One eagle was testing out his water skills…. Caught a fish that was too big and had to swim to shore! Friday July 16 -The rapids were great to see today on our Marine Wildlife/ Tidal Rapids Safari! We also saw a sea lion, which is rare at this time of year. A lot seals and ealges were spotted around stuart island as well! Thursday July 15 -Both our Whale Watch Safari and our Marine Wildlife Safari got to see the orcas! Both trips were grea! It is truely amazing to watch the orcas as they fish for salmon! We even had one nice breach! Wednesday July 14 -The whales were in a mad dash to the west towards Robson Bight today, but we managed to catch up to them and caught them feeding on some big salmon. A couple big breaches and some excellent vocalization! The weather played nice today as well! Tuesday July 13 -24 Orcas today! Lots of vocalization, and lots of playing around! Tail slaps, spy hops and even some breaching! What a lively bunch of whales!! Monday July 12 -Today was a day full of wildlife. Even though the weather didn't play so nice with a recorded 50 knot winds we managed to spend some good time with the Orcas and we even found a bear with her cub. Around Stuart Island we witnessed a fantastic rapids show and the eagles were plentiful! Sunday July 11 -A bit of a bumpy trip up Jonstone strait, but we were definitly rewarded. We saw a humpback who gave us a brief performance in the form of a breach. Once we continued on it wasn't too long before we got our first glimpse of the orcas. The same 11 that we've been seeing for the past several days. And boy were they playful, spy-hops and breaches from the younger ones made our trip complete! Saturday July 10 -WOW!! The whales have been very cooperative this season and we managed to find them on our 4 hour Marine Wildlife Safari! There were 11 orcas! We also had a great show of porpoises in our bow waves and a lot of eagles as well! Friday July 9 -Today we went out on an OUTSTANDING whale watch trip! The trip up and down Johnstone straight was a little bumpy, but it was worth it! We saw more orcas, and lots of them! Including the newest little one who still has not much colour and he sure does enjoy flopping around playfully! We also managed to see a humpback out there!!! Thursday July 8 -O BOY a great day on the water! We had the A36’s with A12 today!! We spotted 11 Orcas and a Brand new baby Orca, it’s still pink!! Also had a great Eagle show at the Arran Rapids and lots of Pacific White Side Dolphins!! Wednesday July 7 -Our first whale watch of the season was a great success, with beautiful weather and a few hours spent with orcas it was a picture perfect day! Sunday July 4 -Today we got lucky again and saw the momma bear once again with her 2 young cubs! Saturday July 3 -Porpoises, eagles, rapids, seals and 2 bears were spotted today! Friday July 2 -It was another BEARY good day out on the water. 6 bears wandering the shores gave perfect opportunities for some nice pictures to be taken by our guests! Thursday July 1 -Although we had no trips out today we did introduce Ollie the orca to the public. Ollie is our newest team member and if you keep your eyes peeled you may see her roaming the docks in search of freshly caught salmon! |
